Dental implant brands, and why they matter

Published 17 July 2026· 6 min read

Not all implants are the same, and the brand matters more than most patients realise. It is one of the most reasonable things to ask a clinic, and one of the most revealing. This article explains why the brand of your implant is worth knowing, which names are trusted, and what a clinic's answer tells you about how it works.

Why the brand matters

An implant is designed to last decades, which means the brand you receive today may matter years from now. If a crown ever needs replacing or a component needs servicing, the parts have to match the original system. Established brands are supported worldwide, so any dentist can service them. An obscure or unbranded implant can leave you stranded, with a part no local dentist can source. The brand is not about prestige. It is about long-term serviceability.

The real reason

Established brands can be serviced anywhere, years later. Obscure ones can leave you stranded.

The trusted names

A handful of implant systems are backed by decades of research and global support. Names like Straumann and Nobel Biocare are among the most established, with long clinical track records behind them. For ceramics and related materials, brands such as Ivoclar and GC are similarly well regarded. These are the systems used by clinics that take the long view. A clinic using them is choosing proven, serviceable components over cheaper unknowns.

What a good clinic does

Beyond using a trusted brand, a good clinic documents it. You should receive a certificate or implant passport recording the brand, model and often the batch number of the exact implant placed in your jaw. This ties the physical implant to a verifiable record, the same principle as a serial number. Our article on verifying your implant certificate explains exactly what to look for.

What the answer tells you

Ask a clinic which brand it uses and whether you will get the certificate in writing. The answer is revealing. A clinic confident in its materials names the brand without hesitation and provides documentation gladly. A clinic that is vague, evasive, or reluctant to commit the brand to paper is telling you something you should hear. This one question does a lot of work in separating serious clinics from the rest.

Why cheaper clinics avoid this question

There is a reason some operations are vague about brands. Established implant systems cost more than unbranded or copied alternatives, so a clinic competing purely on the lowest price has an incentive not to draw attention to what it actually uses. A headline price that undercuts everyone else sometimes hides a cheaper implant you have never heard of, one that may be hard to service later. This is why the brand question is such a useful filter. It quietly separates clinics that invest in proven components from those cutting costs where you cannot see. When you ask and get a clear, documented answer naming a recognised system, you have learned something reassuring not just about the implant, but about the whole clinic.

What we use

We place established, well-documented implant and ceramic brands, and the brand and batch of what we place is recorded and handed to you in writing. You can see the brands we work with in the brands section of our site, and read about the documents you receive in our assurance section. Knowing what is in your mouth, and being able to prove it, is part of treatment done properly.

This article is for general information for prospective patients. It is not a substitute for a clinical examination, and any treatment decision is made by a qualified dentist after assessing your individual case.
