Aftercare after treatment abroad: how it works back in the UK

Published 17 July 2026· 7 min read

Here is the worry that keeps people from booking treatment abroad, and it is a fair one. Once you are back home, who looks after you? For most patients, treatment ends well and normal check-ups with a local dentist are all that is needed. But the honest answer to "what if I need more than that" is what separates a real service from a marketing promise. This article explains how aftercare works once you are back in the UK.

Two kinds of aftercare, and why the difference matters

Aftercare falls into two very different categories, and most clinics only offer the first.

Routine aftercare

This is ordinary maintenance: check-ups, cleaning, keeping an eye on your implants and restorations over the years. Your regular dentist at home handles this, exactly as they would for any dental work. Nothing about treatment abroad changes it.

Treatment-related aftercare

This is the one that matters when you are weighing up a clinic. If you have a question, need an adjustment, or something does not feel right in the weeks or months after treatment, what happens? For many clinics abroad, the answer is email and photos. At a distance, that is thin comfort.

The real difference

Most clinics offer aftercare by email. We offer aftercare you can walk into, at a UK partner location near you.

How our UK aftercare works

This is where our arrangement is different, and worth stating plainly. Through our UK partner network, you can be seen in person at one of eight partner treatment centres across the UK. These are not our clinics. They are trusted partner locations we work with, so that a concern after you return can be assessed face to face, close to home, rather than only by email. It turns aftercare from a promise on a page into a door you can actually open.

What this covers in practice

If something needs looking at after you are home, the pathway is simple: you contact us, and where an in-person assessment helps, we arrange for you to be seen at a UK partner location near you. Combined with remote follow-up for the things that can be handled by photo and message, it means distance stops being the barrier people fear. You can read how the remote side works in our article on photo check-ins and staying in touch, and how a pre-consultation before you fly fits in our pre-consultation guide.

What to tell your local dentist

When you see your regular dentist at home for a routine check, a little information helps them help you. Tell them what treatment you had and when, and show them your treatment plan and any implant certificates. This lets them understand exactly what is in your mouth, which brands and parts were used, and what to keep an eye on. Most dentists are entirely comfortable maintaining well-documented work done elsewhere. The documentation is the key. A local dentist who knows what was placed can care for it as easily as anything they placed themselves, which is another reason the paperwork from your clinic matters so much.

Why we built it this way

The single biggest fear about treatment abroad is being left alone with a problem. So we addressed exactly that. A UK aftercare route, real and in person, is the answer to the question every honest patient asks. It is also why we can talk about safety plainly: the hardest part of treatment abroad, what happens afterwards, is the part we have made real.

This article is for general information for prospective patients. It is not a substitute for a clinical examination, and any treatment decision is made by a qualified dentist after assessing your individual case.
